Mr. James S. Shackleford Sr., 89, of the Illinois Veteran's Home, formerly of Tell City, Indiana, died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday (March 18, 2008) at the Illinois Veteran's Home

Born October 22, 1918 in Ewing, Missouri, Jim was the son of Samuel and Myrtle Lowe Shackleford.

Mr. Shackleford served his country in the U. S. Navy during WW II. He was an active member of the American Legion and V.F.W. while living in Tell City, Indiana. He enjoyed gardening and loved the outdoors.

A graduate of Denver Bible College, Mr. Shackleford was ordained in the Baptist Church and was a minister for churches in Pittsfield and Griggsville. He later moved to Indiana where he was employed as a Supervisor by the Corp of Engineers in Indiana for many years until his retirement.

Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Vogel and her husband Charles of Quincy; a son, James S. Shackelford Jr. and his wife Linda of Lake of the Ozarks, MO.; two grandsons, Kurt Shackleford of Mt. Carmel, IL. and Bryan Campbell and his wife Donna of Martin, TN..; seven great grandchildren, Darr Shackleford, Quinn Shackleford, Bryce Shackleford, Ben Shackleford, Brooklyn Shackleford, Alexis Campbell and Alyssa Campbell; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. Shackleford was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Kent Shackleford; two brothers, Tom Shackleford and Ben Shackleford; and a sister, Margie Drummond.

Cremation rites have been accorded to Mr. Shackleford. The family will meet with friends beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at the home of Becky and Charlie Vogel, 1534 Oak St. in Quincy.

Private inurnment will be in the Ewing Cemetery in Ewing, Missouri. The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veteran's Home Activity Fund.
