Keith N. Armstrong, age 93, of Rhodes Place, passed away the morning of August 30, 2015 at Jameson Hospital.
Born November 8, 1921 in New Castle, he was a son of Nelson and Eva Piatt Armstrong.
Keith was preceded in death on January 8, 1962 by his first wife of 19 years, Betty Lou Montgomery Armstrong, whom he married in 1943. He subsequently married Phyllis Wilson Armstrong on July 14, 1967. She survives in New Castle.
A 1940 graduate of New Caste High School, Keith enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942. He was part of the 303rd bomb group, 359th Bombardment Squadron. He was a waist gunner and radio operator for the B17 Black Diamond Express. Keith flew and completed 35 missions over Europe. The B17 in which he flew was crippled by enemy fire and crash landed three times. Keith was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart.
He was a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal service for 42 1/2 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Lodge of the Craft No. 433.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one sister, and several nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert Armstrong, and a son, Greg Armstrong.
In keeping with Mr. Armstrong's wishes, there will be no calling hours or service.
Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
