Funeral services for Thomas B. Fergen were held June 1, 2006, at the Mt. View Chapel and Cemetery in San Bernardino, Calif.

Thomas B. Fergen was born January 29, 1922, in Parkston to Joe and Marie Fergen.

He graduated from high school in 1940. On January 21, 1941, he joined the U.S. Army and was promoted to Sergeant in June of 1943. He was in the battles of Arzew (Algeria); Dernia Pass; El Guettar, Genla Sicily, and was a part of the initial invasion of Italy (Salerno); and Anzio Beachhead (Italy). He was assigned to the Ranger Battalion called the "Darby's Rangers."

In 1944, he returned to Parkston. On May 20, 1945, he was married to Ruby. They moved to San Bernardino where he opened a hardware store. Eventually, he added a mobile home sales office and real estate sales office to the hardware store, after becoming a licensed realtor.

He died Thursday, May 25, at his daughter's home in Irvine, Calif. He attained the age of 84 years.

He is survived by his three children Stewart (Cathy), Annie (Bill), and Natalie (Joe); seven grandchildren, Marie (Lou), Jenna (Dan), Eric, Dustin, Julia (Tom), Joey and Tessa; and five great-grandchildren, Austin, Lou, Lexie, Alex and Billy; brother, Gerry (Delores) and Cory; sister, Mary Jo; brothers-in-law, Floyd and Mardell; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, on July 16, 1997; and grandson, Dylan.
