JOHNSTON CITY - Ronnie D. Nelson, 67, passed away at 6:01 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, in Herrin Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, in Gospel Mission Church in Johnston City, with the Rev. Larry Marrs officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City, with graveside military rites conducted by the Marion VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Gospel Mission Church of Johnston City. Envelopes will be available at the church or funeral home.
Ronnie was born May 10, 1941, in Carterville, the son of George W. and Verla (Travelstead) Nelson.
Ronnie worked at Wal-Mart in Marion for 10 years and ran his bicycle shop in Johnston City for many years. He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a devout member of Gospel Mission Church. Ronnie was a loving father and will be sadly missed by his family.
He is survived by one son, Ron W. Nelson and wife, Christie, of Kincaid; two grandchildren, Mackenzie and Nicholas Nelson; one sister, Mary Ann Barker and husband, John, of Bartlett; two nephews, Matthew Barker and wife, Kim, and Steven Barker and wife, Livia; his former wife, Gloria Tick; and his girlfriend, Patricia Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
