Robert Clarence Deal, age 86, of Newton passed away from this life on Friday, September 4, 2015, surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born September 14, 1928 in Newton to the late Clarence and Pearl Amos Deal.

Rob was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church of Claremont. Rob loved his friends and family and enjoyed spending his retirement days sharing his love! He was a veteran of the Korean War serving our country in Frankfurt and Baumholder, Germany. He retired from the City of Newton after 34 ½ years as the Electric Department’s Supervisor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers; Glenn, Charles and James Deal and sisters; Ruth Bush, Margaret Waters and Martha Bunton.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Wilma Stewart Deal of the home; sons, Mark Deal and wife, Rita of Conover and Michael Deal and wife, Sharrie of Hickory; daughter, Lori Flynn and husband, David of Catawba; brothers, Carl Deal and wife, Sandra of Maiden and William Deal of Denver; sister, Catherine Turbyfill of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Justin and Rebekah Deal of Conover, Meredith and Adam Keisler of Hillsborough, Seth Eckard of Orlando, Claudia Eckard of Greensboro and Justin, Joey and Julie Petree of High Shoals; great-grandchildren, Drew and Skylar Petree and soon to be born, Audrey Kate Keisler.

A celebration of Rob’s life will be held at the Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2015. Reverend Eric Hollar will preside at the services and burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Newton with military honors by the American Legion Post 16 of Newton.
