Matthew Wyatt Hollis, 16, of Chapel Hill, passed away on August 30th, 2015.

Matthew exploded into this world on January 5th, 1999, in Raleigh, NC, to Bruce and Kelly Hollis. His electric smile lit up a room. He had more energy than the energizer bunny- Perhaps that is why his light was so bright. He loved building forts, creating movies, constructing..anything... swimming, skiing, archery, airsoft, CrossFit, and working in the coffee shop at New Hope church. The boy made a mean Caramel Macchiato. He was kind beyond measure. He would go out of his way to put a smile on someone's face. If you had the pleasure of knowing him, you were blessed. If you were given the role of parent, you were privileged to call him Son-so privileged!

Matthew attended Cary Christian School from kindergarten to 8th grade, and received the Christ-like Character award while he was there. He treasured his friendships with Anderson, Jack, and Sam. Oh the adventures they had...He moved to Cardinal Gibbons for high school. He was so looking forward to swimming for the mighty Crusaders, and making his mark.

We are certain that Matthew was greeted in heaven by his Great Grandmother Ethel Kohler, and Great Grandfather William Kohler, as well as Nina Ryan and Watergrammy McLeod .

Matthew LOVED his family, and we will all miss him terribly including his grandparents Beverly and Raymond Hollis, and his Mimi and Papa Bob and Judy Ryan, his uncles Dave, Paul and Steve Hollis, and Rob and Danny Ryan, his aunts Gloria and Melissa Ryan, and Lisa Hollis, his beloved cousins Andrew, Russell, and Melissa Hollis, and Robbie, Michael and Colleen Ryan, and our newest and precious cousins Lauren and sweet Kinsley Ryan, but mostly.mostly he will be missed by his Brother Brian, who romped through the woods with Matthew with an equal enthusiasm for adventure.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday September 8th, New Hope Church 7619 Fayetteville Road Durham, NC 27713 (near Southpoint Mall). We welcome anyone who wishes to celebrate Matthew's life. In lieu of flowers, we are setting up a fund to sponsor a New Hope student to share God's love on the annual Haiti Mission Trip. This was near and dear to Matthew's heart. No amount is too small. Help Matthew's light to shine. A link will be established on the New Hope website, and a basket will be at Matt's memorial celebration.

We love you Matthew. We will forever miss you, but we know that you will be greeting us with one of your awesome coffees on the other side.

This life passes in the blink of an eye Matt. See you soon.
