She was born March 16, 1950 in Utica, NY, the daughter of Arnold and Evelyn Richardson Case. She graduated from S. Jefferson Central School and would later further her education at Jefferson Community College to which she graduated in 1970. Mrs. Townsend also attended additional classes at Oswego State College. Mrs. Townsend married Leon Townsend on April 13, 1985 in Copenhagen. Mr. Townsend died on March 20, 2011.
Mrs. Townsend served as the Town of Pinkney clerk for 15 years. She was a nursing assistant at the Samaritan Keep Home in Watertown and Brown’s Nursing home in Adams Center prior to her appointment as town clerk. In addition, she was a popular and loved babysitter for her Barnes Corner Community. She was a member of the Town Clerk Association, the Jefferson County New York Genealogical Society, the Jefferson and Lewis County Historical Society, and a member of the Barnes Corners Methodist Church. Susan enjoyed genealogy, gardening, and was a history buff of world religion, native American history and other cultures. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Friends of Hospice of Lewis County.
Surviving is her mother Evelyn Richardson Case of Watertown, her four children Mrs. Patrick (Flossie) Malbouf of Copenhagen, Mrs. Ty (Tia) Hwang-Cogan of Liverpool, her son and daughter in law Mr. and Mrs. Reuben and Margaret Hwang of Copenhagen, and her daughter and son in law Mrs. Ernest (Irene) Bragg of Fulton, NY, her five brothers Michael Case of Smithville, Patrick and Donna Case of Smithville, John Case of Adams, NY, Edward and Rose Case of Watertown and David Case of North Carolina, her three sisters and brothers in law, Mrs. Richard (Patricia) Hovorka of Adams, Mrs. Hal (Emily) Puffer of Copenhagen, and Mrs. Mick (Mary) Blanchard of Adams Center. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren.
