Obituary - Caroline Cannon Whitney Steele died March 4, 1993, of causes incident to age.

She had been a resident at St. Joseph Villa for several years, a victim of Alzheimer's disease, but died at home. She was 90-years-old. She was born May 14, 1902 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Willard Telle Cannon and Caroline Young Cannon. She attended public schools in Salt Lake City and graduated from the University of Utah in 1924. While at the University, she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.

She married Hardin A. Whitney in 1926 and following their marriage, they moved to Helena, Montana, where they had a son, Hardin A. Whitney, Jr. They were later divorced and she returned to Salt Lake City.

In 1935, she married James E. "Cream" Steele, who, with her encouragement, began his own roofing business which was very successful.

He attributed much of that success to their joint efforts.

Caroline was active socially and had many friends. She loved to play bridge and golf, one year winning the Ladies Championship, at the Salt Lake Country Club. She was also active in the local chapter of the American Red Cross, and volunteered her time to many local charities. She was a member of the Town Club.

She is survived by her husband, Cream; her son, Hardin A. Whitney, Jr. and his wife Beverly; her stepdaughter, Anne S. Parker and her husband Norton; sisters, Mrs. Paul L. Wattis (Phyllis), and Mrs. J. Arthur Pett (Ethelyn); sisters-in-law, Judith Cannon, and Blanche Cannon; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Roger, Gerald, and Arthur, and a sister, Barbara.

Funeral services will be held at Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 East 1st South, Salt Lake City, on Monday, March 8, 1993, at 12 noon. Friends may call at the mortuary at 11 a.m. Interment will follow the funeral services at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Northern Utah Chapter, Alzheimer's Assoc., 543 East 500 South, #7, Salt Lake City, Ut 84102.
