Miss Queenie Mary Brooks, of the Kiwanis Nursing Home, Sussex, (formerly of St. George St.,) passed away at her residence, on December 17, 2003, at the age of 94. Born in Penobsquis, N.B. on July 6, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Seymour Edward and Ida Olive (McCafferty) Brooks. Queenie is survived by her brother Emery Brooks of Saint John, three sisters, Edith Bell of Ottawa, Effie Morton and her husband Roy of Rothesay, Bessie Berry and her husband Bob of Saint John, eleven nieces, twelve nephews, several great nieces and nephews. Queenie was predeceased by five brothers, Bobby, Carl, Ed, Oris and Gerald, two sisters, Leona James and Jean Bright, her niece, Heather Morton, her sister-in-law Ruby Brooks and by her brother-in-law, Curtis Bell. Queenie graduated from the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing in 1932. Throughout her nursing career she was a private duty nurse, an employee of the Saint John General Hospital and Lancaster Veterans Hospital. In 1971 Queenie retired from nursing due to poor health. She was a past member of Sussex United Baptist Church where she was a member of the Fidelity Glass. She was also a member of the NB Registered Nursing Association, the Federal Civil Servants Superannuates and the King's County Historical Society. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), with visitation on Thursday 2-4, 7-9. The Funeral Service is from Wallace Memorial Chapel on Friday, December 19, 2003 at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at Kirk Hill Cemetery in the spring. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Kiwanis Nursing Home or to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
