Alice was born and raised in Westfield, NY. She was a graduate of Westfield Academy and attended Simmons College and the Cleveland Library School. She married Charles Greene Watson on October 2, 1910 at St Peter's Episcopal Church in Westfield. She accompanied Charles to Goldfield, Nevada in 1912 during the gold rush when he was working in mining operations with his father and brother. On August 11, 1913 in Goldfield, Nevada she gave birth to her first child. Family lore has it that she gave birth in the family's hotel - the Watson House - on the kitchen table. She returned to Westfield six weeks later by train alone with her newborn child. The next year her husband rejoined her in Westfield. They lived the majority of their married life at 33 Water Street where they raised two children - Charles Flagler and Mary Elizabeth. She was a life long and devoted member of St Peter's Episcopal Church in Westfield.
