Susan Marie Smith McGuire passed away on August 14, 2015, in Prescott, Arizona after a courageous battle with ALS. Sue was born on June 10, 1955, in Los Angeles California, to Rod and Marilyn Smith. She is the eldest of 4 children.

Her family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1965 when she was 10 years old. She went to Cocopah Elementary School and graduated from Saguaro High School in 1973. Sue was blessed with a beautiful voice and loved singing in the choir in High School and continued with that talent when she attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. Another love she had was dancing. She danced with the Ricks College dance group. The Valhalla's, and traveled to Europe on a dance tour with them. That was a highlight in her life. She graduated with a degree in Home Economics and returned to Scottsdale where she worked for over 19 years for Dr. Paul Brenchley D.D.S. as a dental assistant and eventually as the office manager. She loved her job there and the wonderful people she worked with.

In 1994, she met Daniel McGuire, the love of her life. They married in the Mesa Arizona Temple on May 14, 1994 and then moved to Chino Valley, Arizona where they raised 2 beautiful girls and Dan's 3 wonderful children. Sue was very active as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was always willing to serve in any capacity that was asked of her. She served in leadership and other positions in the Relief Society, the Young Women, the Primary organizations, as well as Music director. She was also an early morning Seminary teacher for the LDS high school students for 2 years.

During her time in Chino Valley, Sue was involved in everything her daughters were doing. At Del Rio Elementary School Sue was a volunteer classroom mom several years, an assistant Music Director for school recitals, and was very active in the Parent/Teacher Association. She substituted as a teacher and served on several committees at the Heritage Middle School. At Tri City Prep High School she frequently drove the school vans for the girls sporting events. She was her daughters biggest fan and was so proud of their accomplishments.

Over the years she worked with her husband in his realty office and for the last 6 years worked for laser Gifts in Prescott and made many fond memories with coworkers who became her dear friends and supported her throughout her illness.

She was diagnosed with ALS in August of 2014 although symptoms began in the fall of the previous year. Many people rallied and participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge that brought a great deal of awareness to ALS. There has been an outpouring of love and service over the past year and a half from the entire community who knew and loved her. Hospice Family Care was so helpful these last seven months and the ALS Foundation truly blessed her life. She touched the lives of so many and was truly an example of Christ like love and service throughout her life. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Sue is survived by her husband, Daniel McGuire; daughter, Amanda McGuire and Leah McGuire; 3 step children, Thaddeus (Jenna) McGuire, Aaron McGuire (Amber), and Adrienne Mae Chambers (Brandon), and 10 grandchildren; Mother, Marilyn Smith; Siblings, Kathy (Ron) Ray, Melissa (Jeff) Walker, Alec (Denice) Smith, 5 Nephews and 4 nieces. Sue is predeceased by her father, C. Rodney Smith.

There will be no viewing per her family's wishes, but there will be a family/friends gathering starting at 10:00 AM, also at the Church.
