Funeral services for John Blanton, 73, of Piketon, were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the residence of his daughter, Mrs Polly Meade of Lucasville. Burial followed in Haggerts (Harger) Cemetery on Rose Hill Road, near Lucasville, under the direction of the Boyer Funeral Home of Waverly. Friends called at the Meade residence after 7 p.m. Saturday.

Mr. Blanton, a retired farmer, died at 10:30 p.m. Friday, where he was dead on arrival at the Pike County Hospital. His death was attributed to a heart attack. A native of Magoffin County Kentucky, he was born on Nov. 12, 1902, a son of Dan & Elizabeth Blanton. Mr. Blanton was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Mrs. Peggy Tackett Blanton, who died in 1962. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Opal Conley Blanton; one son, Earl Blanton of Piketon; two daughters, Mrs. Polly Meade of Lucasville, and Mrs. Bonnie Montgomery of Lucasville; one stepson, Hearl Conley, also of Lucasville; two stepdaughters, Joy Conley and Mrs. Judy Blanton, both of Piketon; 36 grand children; one brother Boone Blanton of Lucasville; and two sisters, Mrs. Laurie VanHoose of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Florie Cantrell of Flat Fork, Kentucky.
