Mary Leona Dunn Doty died on October 20, 1992 as a result of the effects of advanced age.

She was 87 years old.

She was born June 14, 1905 in Tooele, Utah, the seventh of the 10 children of Joseph Owen Dunn and Mary Ann Craner.

She learned the meaning of hard work on her father's farm in Tooele and later in Corinne, Utah. She tended children in Logan, Utah in order to obtain an education. She became a school teacher and later taught in junior high school in Honolulu, Hawaii.

She married Benjamin McCarrey Doty in the Logan LDS Temple June 15, 1927.

They were the parents of three children, G. Richard Doty, South Pasadena, Calif.; Donald B. Doty, Bountiful; and Mary Ann Erickson, Joshua Tree, Calif.

The family resided in Honolulu, Hawaii during the 1930's. She learned traditional hula dancing and performed with unusual grace for one who was not Polynesian. She would occasionally dance on request even until the last year of her life. The family moved to Los Angeles, Calif. in 1942. She worked for many years in the Bulletin Mailing Department of the University of Southern California. She loved the atmosphere of the college campus and the service she performed. Retiring at age 65, she spent her time working in the Los Angeles LDS Temple, and accompanying her husband on frequent day fishing trips, reading and doing needle work. She enjoyed quilting until her vision failed. She moved with her husband to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1989 for greater security and comfort.
