Hollis Singletary, 88, of McGregor, died Wednesday, August 02, 2006. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 5, 2006, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, McGregor, with Charles Daily officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in McGregor Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cole Funeral Home.

Hollis was born in Alto, Texas, to the late Thomas William and Eureta Neil (Shattuck) Singletary. He began his education in Alto for four years and then the family moved to Fastril in 1929 where he attended school and was a 1935 graduate of Slocum High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1940 until his honorable discharge in 1943. He was a life member of the Disable American Veterans (DAV) in Fort Worth and McGregor. On July 10, 1946, he married Zelma Niswonger in Raton, N.M. Much of his life was spent in the nursing profession with the Veterans Administration Hospitals in Fort Line, Colo., from 1952 until 1955. In 1955 to 1958, he was in Roseburg, Ore., and returned to Colorado in 1958 until he moved to Waco in 1967. After many years, he retired in 1973. He was a member of First Christian Church in McGregor.

Survivors include his wife, Zelma Singletary, of McGregor; daughter, Lois Burns and Jim DuPree, of Waco; son, Bill Singletary and wife, Trudy, of McGregor; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five step-great-granchildren; sisters, Betty Crawford, Patsy Pettis, Glenda Jean, all of Kingswood; brother, Charles Singeltary, of Lufkin; and many other family members and friends.
