James A. Bowman

James A. Bowman died at his home in West Falmouth, Tuesday, in his 86th year. A lifelong resident of West Falmouth, he was born in that village Sept. 27, 1866, a son of Capt. Francis Marshall Bowman and Abbie Ann Bowman.

Mrs. Bowman, the former Miss Anna Lumbert of West Falmouth, died in 1948. In 1938 Mr. and Mrs. Bowman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Bowman was a contractor and was in charge of maintaining many West Falmouth summer residences. He was a lifelong member of Falmouth Marine lodge, A.F. and A.M., a charter member of the Knights of Pythias and a member of West Falmouth Methodist church.

Of generous and kindly disposition, Mr. and Mrs. Bowman. were both known for their neighborly kindnesses. Many villagers affectionately called them "Uncle Jim" and "Aunt Anna."

Mr. Bowman is survived by a brother, Adelbert L. Bowman; four nephews, F. Stanley Bowman and Reginald H. Bowman, both of West Falmouth, the Rev. Alliston Gifford of Saugus, and James Lumbert of Vineyard Haven; three nieces, Mi's. J. Stuart Harlow, Mrs. Arthur FJ Hennessey and Mrs. Walter J. Nadolski, all of West Falmouth.

Mr. Gifford officiated at the funeral, which was held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon. He was assisted by the Rev. Carl Patton, pastor. Falmouth Masons were bearers and conducted a Masonic committal service at Oak Grove cemetery.
