Ocala - James H. Thomas, age 81, of Ocala, FL passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015. He was born in Rocky Bottom, SC on June 12, 1934. James served in the U.S. Air Force from August 1952 to August 1956 and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations and National Defense Service Medals, as well as the Good Conduct Medal. James went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in 1956, retiring in 1990 as Postmaster in Belleview, FL. He was President from 1984 to 1986, and was Postmaster of the Year in 1986, of the Florida Chapter of NAPUS. James enjoyed family, doing puzzles, his dogs, and watching sports - especially the Seminoles. His greatest joy was watching his granddaughter dance and his grandson play baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Thomas of Ocala, FL; son, Chris Thomas of Ocala FL; son, Mark Thomas and his wife, Denise of Ocala, FL; granddaughter, Brianne Thomas of Tallahassee, FL; and grandson, Matt Thomas of Ocala, FL; sister, Maxine Hitt and her husband, Parker of Ocala, FL; two nieces, (Donna and Pam) and a nephew, (Tommy).
He was preceded in death by his parents, father, James Calhoun Thomas, and mother, Mary Edwards Sargent.
Burial service will take place at Highland Memorial Park, 1515 NE 3rd St., Ocala, FL 34470 at 11 a.m. Tuesday September 8, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Humane Society of Marion County, Inc., PO Box 1542, Ocala, FL 34478.
