Byron Dwight "Bardy" Jensen was born on August 28, 1933 to Grant and Mildred (Davis) Jensen in Hard Scratch (Logan), Iowa. He was baptized at Bethel Baptist church in Harlan, Iowa. He attended the Christian Church in Logan when he was young. His parents took him to Bible school in Harris Grove.
He attended grade school at Lincoln No. 1 and high school in Harlan.

On June 23, 1952 he entered into the United States Air Force in Omaha, Nebraska. He transferred to the Air Force Reserves and was assigned to the 6550th Supply Squadron and the Air Research and Development Command before being honorably discharged on June 22, 1956 from Patrick Air Force Base in Florida.

After he returned from Korea, he lived in Marshalltown with his sister and brother-in-law for a while before he returned to the Harlan, Iowa area where he farmed the homeplace.
Byron enjoyed hunting and fishing and received a lifetime fishing license. He loved sports and would often sneak out to his pickup to listen to ball games on the radio after family dinners. He enjoyed cats and dogs, especially his pet cat "Traveler" and his dog.

Byron died on Friday, April 13, 2012 at the Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of seventy-eight years, seven months, and sixteen days. He was preceded in death by his parents.
