Gene was born August 6, 1931 in Dayton, TX, ninth of ten children of Jack Raymond Alexander and Mamie Allie Carter Alexander. A machinist by trade, he was a tool and die maker at the Charleston Naval Shipyard in shops 31 and 06. Gene rose to the position of supervisor, and under his direction, shop 06 won several awards for safety.

He was a Master Mason and a member of Mariner Lodge #2.

He retired to Eutawville about 20 years ago to pursue his love of hunting and fishing.

He is survived by a sister, Allene A. Garrison of Mason, TX; two sons, Aubry G. (Joanne) Alexander II of Charleston, SC and William Raymond Alexander of Cornelia, GA; five grandchildren, Mary M. Alexander of Athens, GA, Kevin M. Alexander of Athens, GA, Sara A. Underwood of Demorest, GA, Joel P. (Ashley) Alexander of Clarkesville, GA, and Wade C. Alexander of Charleston, SC; and four great-grandchildren, Skye Underwood, Felicity Underwood, Kara Alexander, and Evie Alexander. A son, Donald L. Alexander, predeceased him.
