OBITUARY:

Winifred Lee “Wimpy” Smith was born in San Saba, Texas on November 2, 1925 to Albert Joseph Smith, Sr. and Thelma Joe Smith. They later moved to Gregory, Texas where he graduated from Gregory High School in 1943. He served in the United States Army from 1944-1946 in Company D, 273rd Infantry Division. He went to Texas A&I University, Kingsville, TX and later earned his Master of Divinity degree at Southwestern Theological Seminary. His career spanned from working with the “Invincibles” at East Texas State University where he met and married Beverly Jean Hefley in 1953. His career spanned from serving as a Missionary in Argentina, to the Executive Director with Texas Baptist Men in Dallas, Texas, to service with the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board in Richmond, Virginia , to starting his own church fundraising company in Dallas, Texas.

He is preceded in his death by his parents, his brothers Joe & Frank Smith, his sister Barbara Catchings, and his son Winifred Lee Smith, Jr. He is survived by his brother Marion Smith, his sons, Mark & Roger Smith & their mother, Beverly Smith, his daughters, Jana & Vania Smith and their mother, Gloria Smith, grandchildren, Madeleine Sis and her husband Nate, and Noah, Justin & Adam Smith, and his daughter-in-law, Scotti Smith, and cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He died a peaceful death on September 1st, 2015.

A military funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2015 in lane C at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Texas Baptist Men, In Memory of Winifred Smith, 5351 Catron Dr., Dallas, TX 75227
