Dowlton was born in La Mesa, Texas on November 7, 1929. Shortly after, the Berry family moved west and settled in Ontario, CA. He graduated from Chaffey High School in 1949, where he met the late Ruth Anne (Castle) Berry, his beloved wife of 63 years.
The son of the late Nathaniel and Janie Berry of Ontario, CA, Dowlton is survived by sons Craig (Kim) Berry and Lance (Carla) Berry, grandchildren Mitchell (Sara) Berry and Megan and Rachel Berry.
A veteran of the Korean War, Dowlton proudly served his country and, upon returning from overseas, went to work for the family business, Berry Construction. There he became a premier contractor of Southern California, building many of the region's schools, civic buildings, banks and private and commercial properties.
Dowlton loved spending time with his grandchildren, tending to his rose garden, curating his collection of cut glass and weekly skeet shooting with his sons and friends. He will always be remembered for his generosity, candor and larger-than-life personality.
Dowlton's service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday September 9, 2015 at Sunset Mausoleum, Bellevue Memorial Park, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dowlton's honor to the Salvation Army: 2320 5th Ave. San Diego, CA 92101 (please include his name on the memo line of your check). Reception to immediately follow at Red Hill Country Club. He will forever be missed.
