Actor of Stage, Screen and Film. Born into a well-known acting family, Alan Howard made his first stage appearance in 1958. He went on to appear in many stage productions, particularly Shakespeare, appearing alongside the likes of Sir Ralph Richardson, Dame Judi Dench and Edward Woodward. He was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1966 to 1983 and was a lead actor for the National Theatre between 1992 and 2000. Aside from his stage career, he also starred in several television roles, including The Return of Sherlock Holmes, Midsomer Murders and Foyle's War. His film credits include providing the voice of the ring in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
