James Clifford “Cliff” Purdy, 88, of Owensboro passed away Friday, September 3, 2015 in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Born in Owensboro, a son of the late Charles Edward and Ada Catherine Smyth Purdy.

Cliff, for more than 30 years, worked at S.W. Anderson’s as the manager for advertising and display. He then formed Cliff Purdy Services, which he operated for more than 20 years. Cliff was a charter member of Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church which he served as a member of the choir and teacher of adult Sunday school. He was devoted to his family and valued the time he spent with them. Known for his wry wit, Cliff was an avid reader, a flower and vegetable gardener, enjoyed classical music and was a staunch follower of University of Kentucky basketball.

Survivors include his wife Jean D. Purdy, whom he married 66 years ago this past Valentines Day; his sons Philip Decker Purdy and his wife Linda of Leavenworth, KS and Mark James Purdy and his wife Claire of Akron, OH; his grandsons Christopher James Purdy and his wife Telisa of Olathe, KS and Jonathan Mark Purdy and his wife Sara of Andover, KS; his great-grandchildren Gwynna Lynn Purdy and Philip Drew Purdy of Olathe and Rylee Jean Purdy and Emma Marie Purdy of Andover, KS; and his brothers Charles Edward Purdy, Sr. of Sarasota, FL and David Milford Purdy of Smith Grove, KY.

The funeral service, officiated by the Rev. James Coleman, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the church.
