Vern Samuel Ross, 99 of Clinton, Utah, was born on May 27, 1916 in Clinton, to John George and Elizabeth Grace Mason Ross. He was the youngest of ten children.

He married Armenta Irene Lever on January 3, 1941 in Ogden. She passed away on October 2, 2004.

Vern was a hard worker and spent his early years working on the family farm. He attended Davis High School, and following his military service, he attended Weber State College.

Vern was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings throughout his life.

He loved the outdoors and spent as much time as he could camping, fishing and hiking.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, as an air traffic controller on many of the South Pacific Islands. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant at the end of the war. He was called back into service during the Korean War. He worked at the Clearfield Naval Base, Thiokol, and he retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1973.

He lived his entire married life in Layton, Utah. After his wife passed, he resided in Ogden, Roy and Layton, finally spending his final time at the home of his daughter in Clinton.

He was a devoted family man and set a wonderful example of laughter and unconditional love.

Vern is survived by his daughter, Marilyn (Richard) Mazeika, Clinton. He is also survived by four granddaughters, Tauna (Rob) Gates (Matthew, Tyler and Zachary), Clinton; Tori Heaps (Michael – serving in the U.S. Marine Corps; Mason and Logan), Roy; Jamie Yoder (Kaitlyn, Kylie, and Aiden), Layton; and Jana Brizzi (Ethan), Clinton. He passed away on August 31, 2015, surrounded by his family, from causes incident to age.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers (John and Lincoln), sisters (Hannah, Clara, Elva, Delilah, Agnes, Ida, and Emma).
