Funeral services were held Sunday, November 4 at 4 p.m. from the Episcopal Church of the Messiah for Dr. James Scheske, who died Friday, November 2, at 6:35 p.m. in the Humana Hospital in San Antonio.
Seydler-Hill Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The Rev.Richard Urban assisted at the rites.
The Rev. Charles G. Woehler conducted the rites with burial in the Masonic cemetery.
Dr. Scheske was born December 24, 1928, in Gonzales, the son of Ella Mae Vrazel and James Miller Scheske, Sr., natives of Gonzales. He was married to Tillie Marie Nash on November 26. 1948, and lived at 1006 St. Louis Street.
After 23 years of medical practice in Edna, he had recently retired and moved to Gonzales.
He was a graduate of the University of Texas and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and as a graduate was awarded a hold headed cane and was a member of the AOS Medical Society. He served in the Korean War as a sergeant in the United States Medical Corps and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Messiah. In 1978 he served as state campaign chairman for the American Cancer Society and was associated with the American Cancer Society for many years. He was also affiliated with the American Academy of Family Practice, Southern Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, the Victoria, Goliad, Jackson and Calhoun counties Medical Society.
