Lester Carroll Barnes, age 56, of Rush Branch Road, Sugar Grove, died August 30, 2015 at home. Lester was born November 14, 1958 in Watauga County. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Before retirement, he worked as a custodian at Watauga High School and in food services at Appalachian State University. He enjoyed farming, especially raising and selling tobacco and riding and working his horses.
Lester is survived by wife, Patricia Coffey Barnes; three daughters, Tequila Gilreath and husband, Butch, of Mountain City, TN., Jennifer Barnes of Sugar Grove and Anna Price and husband, Michael, of Mountain City; three sons, Kenny Lunceford of Lenoir, Robert Wagoner and wife, Nikki, of Boone, and Earl Barnes and wife, Leslie, of Millers Creek; eleven grandchildren; his mother, Katie Glenn Barnes of Sugar Grove; sister, Nellie Oakes and husband, Ira, of Mountain City; and two brothers, George Barnes and wife, Julie, and J. C. Barnes, all of Sugar Grove. Sixteen nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Earl Barnes.
Funeral services were held at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Donald Yates. Graveside services and burial at the Glenn-Ward Cemetery.
