Dr. Thomas B. Lester was not only a respected doctor in Kansas City but was also one of the first incorporators of the Kansas City, Hannibal & St. Joseph Railroad, chartered in 1855. Although the line was never built it was the predecessor to the Hannibal & Kansas City Railroad which would link Cameron, Missouri to Kansas City, Missouri. This line would not only help make Kansas City, Missouri the terminus for the westward expansion in 1867, it would also bring the first railroad bridge to span the Missouri river in 1869.
