Mrs. Grantham was born in Fitzgerald on March 29, 1913. Her father, Ed Hussey, was the owner of a hardware and electrical business for forty years in Fitzgerald. Her mother, Cora Nye, came to Fitzgerald from Nebraska in a covered wagon as a child. Cora Nye’s father was one of the founders of the First Baptist Church and an early colonist.
A 1930 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, Mrs. Grantham attended Georgia State College for Women and Opportunity Business School in Atlanta. She served as secretary to the manager of Alabama Power Company in Gadsden, Alabama and was employed by the Fitzgerald Water, Light, and Bond for twelve years. She had lived in Orlando, Florida for thirty years and had returned to Fitzgerald in December of 2004. She was an active member of Pine Level United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Grantham was a charter member of the Floraculture Garden Club, President of the Garden Club Council, and organized the Cherokee Garden Club in 1953. An enjoyable pastime was using the computer that she purchased at the age of eighty-nine. She also enjoyed playing bridge and oil painting. Her favorite charities were the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association.
Survivors include husband Jesse Grantham of Fitzgerald, sons and daughters-in law, David Willcox of Fitzgerald, GA and Jim Willcox daughter Diane Willcox, six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, and a brother, Lee Hussey of San Diego, California.
Preceding Mrs. Grantham in death were five brothers, her first husband, Dr. W.D. Willcox,Sr., and a daughter, Gail Willcox Bouchard.
