He was survived by his daughters, Mary Black of Lily and Lora Bingham of Somerset, Kentucky; his sons, W.D. Simpson, Elder John Simpson, and James Simpson, all of Grundy, Pulaski County, Kentucky; 1 sister; 2 brothers; 42 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marriah (Barnes) Simpson (married in 1878); and six of their children.
Funeral services were held July 14, 1953 at the Pleasant Run Baptist Church with Reverend Walter Jones and Reverend Lee Dykes officiating.
