Mrs. Carlyn (Carnie) A. Hammersley, age 91, of Merrick Street, died Sunday at the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown. There will be no calling hours. A graveside committal service will be at 11am Saturday, Sept. 5, at Clayton Cemetery.
Carnie was born March 15, 1924, the daughter of Manley and Alice Heherton Rusho.
She attended Grindstone Island School and graduated from Clayton Schools.
A marriage to Samuel (Jack) Hammersley ended in divorce.
Carnie worked as an Assistant and a Receptionist for a time for the late Dr. William Heady. She also worked for a time at Jefferson Community College and retired from Jefferson County Public Health where she was Secretary for Mrs. Jean Heady.
She enjoyed watching television, flower gardening, and bowling.
Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Cathryn (Terry) Vieau of Clayton; one son John (Jeanine) Hammersley of Florida; two granddaughters, Nicole and Erin; four great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Eleanor Calhoun of Clayton; nieces and nephews.
One brother, Leon Rusho, predeceased her.
Donations can be made in her name to the American Heart Association or the Association of the Blind.
