Loyal K. Atkinson, 78, died Sunday, June 11, 1995 in St. George, after a short illness.
Born January 19, 1917 in Ammon, Idaho, to Hyrum Bert and Rhoana Hatch Atkinson. Married Mildred Watkins September 4, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Mr. Atkinson graduated from Rexburg High School and moved to Salt Lake City to attend LDS Business College. He was a businessman in Sugarhouse, first at Granite Mart, then as owner of Loyal's Dads and Lads. He retired from Kelly Company and moved to St. George in 1985.
He was a High Priest in the LDS Church. Loyal was active in the Salt Lake and Sugarhouse Chambers of Commerce, Charter member of Sugarhouse Kiwanis and was a 30 year member of the South East Lions Club. He served in the Army Air Force Administration during World War II, in Miami and in the Aleutian Islands. He loved golf, traveling and bowling, where he was secretary of the Service League for 25 years.
Surviving family members include his wife, Mildred, of St. George; daughter, Rhoana E. and husband, Harold Shaw of West Jordan; son, L. Bruce and wife, Christine Atkinson of Salt Lake City; eight grandchildren; one sister, Erma Johnston of Columbus, Ohio; and one brother, Theron Atkinson of St. George, Utah.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 16, 1995 at 2 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
