Wilton was born and raised in Morris where he graduated with the class of 1964 from Grotto High School. He was described as being tall with blonde hair and loved playing baseball while in high school. Wilton attended Princeton University during 1968 while serving in the Marine Reserves. He dropped out and went into active-duty 11 June 1968.
Wilton arrived in Vietnam 27 March 1969 and was assigned as the 2nd platoon commander with
Hotel Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. At approximately 1600H while on a combat patrol the 2nd platoon was engaged by hostile forces ,8 kilometers northwest of Cam Lo. Wilton died as a result of gunshot wounds penetrating his chest and abdomen from rifle fire.
Wilton was single and served his country for 11 months and 18 days and was KIA# 42,295.
He had been in Vietnam for 2 months and 2 days.
Wilton was 23 years,1 month and 23 days old and died 1 month and 23 days after his 23rd birthday.
Survived by his parents; Rev David McAlpin and Virginia S Pyle, a brother and a sister of Rural Delivery #1, Morris, CT. His uncle and aunt; James T and Anna F Pyle of New York, New York.
Burial services were conducted at the National Cathedral, Washington, DC. Lt Pyle was buried with military honors 9 June 1969.
