Ron is survived by his wife of 38 years, Madgejolene Ackley; son, Ronald (Sarah) Ackley of Waverly; daughters, Nicole (Ron) Hodge of Lowman, Wendy (Josh) Sackett of Chemung, and Michelle Schrader of Chemung; grandchildren, Tyler Hodge, Troy Hodge, Paige Ackley, Nathan Ackley, Dalton Sackett, Derek Sackett, Travis Fedock, Tara Fedock, Krislyn Mazzerese, Angelo Mazzerese, Sam Mazzerese; brother, William (Lisa) Ackley, of VanEtten; sister, Barbara (Patrick) Fitzgibbons of Newark Valley; several nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, Mike (Nancy) Struble and good friend Paul Bailey.
Ron was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and cutting firewood. He relished the time he spent with his family four-wheeling and camping. He loved going to the drag races and riding his motorcycle. He was a mechanical genius and could build just about anything from wood or steel. He worked for the Town of Chemung Highway Department as the Highway Superintendent for 28 years. He retired from the town in 2008, but continued his own trucking business.
Ron was a wonderful husband. He was very kind and caring and always willing to help everyone. He will be greatly missed.
A time of gathering will be held on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015 from 10-11:45 a.m. at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad St., Waverly. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. with Pastor Cindy Schulte officiating.
