Son of Seth and Sally King Benson.

Horace was first married to Mary A. Ryan on February 9, 1859 in Rock County, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of William and Mary Gibson Ryan. They had two children: William H. Benson (1861-1942) - He is buried here at Our Silent City Cemetery. They also had a daughter Alice Lucinda Benson (1865-1914) who died at the Jasper County Home outside of Newton, Iowa. Per genealogy records found, Mary died about 1865 in Wisconsin.

He was married to Jennie E. Irish on August 4, 1866 at Sun Prairie, Dane County, Wisconsin. Her parents were David and Harriet Brownell Irish. Horace and Jennie had five children: Seth, Arthur, Sarah, Fred and Herman.

After Horace's death, In 1878, Jennie married Homer Benson. Son of Henry James (who was a brother to Horace) and Harriet Pinney Benson. He was born in Wisconsin. They had two children, Izora and Hattie. They lived near Kellogg, Iowa.
