Born in New Harbor on May 22, 1925, he was the third child of Madolyn and Morrill “Mollie” Hanna. He attended schools in East Hartford, CT, and received his diploma from East Hartford High School.

His ship transported troops home from WWII, and did supply runs to China.

After his honorable service, he moved to Bristol where he met Myrtle Ann Crocker. They were married on November 4, 1950, and he built their current home in Round Pond, where he and Myrtle lived until the time of his death.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, lobsterman; a skilled tradesman, and held a merchant marine license. Most importantly, he was a loving family man. He had an engaging personality, and loved to tell a story. Harney was a member of the Round Pond United Methodist Church, and was a 51 year member of the Bristol #74 Masonic Lodge.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two siblings, Carroll Hanna and Wintie Templeton; and a grandson, Stephen Hanna.
