Pete L. Hernandez, longtime resident of Flagstaff, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2015.

He was born February 5, 1927 in Williams, AZ, to Pedro and Delores Hernandez. He was 88.

Mr. Hernandez was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great, great grandfather and brother. His whole life revolved around his family and he loved them beyond measure. He was a very kind and generous man and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Hernandez was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He worked for the Navajo Army Depot as an explosive operator and supervisor for 42 years and retired from the Arizona National Guard as Sergeant First Class after 30 years of service. He was a life member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He loved all sports and enjoyed playing pool, softball, bowling, coaching little league, and especially playing guitar with various local groups.

Mr. Hernandez is survived by his daughters, Diana Hernandez; Dorothy Hernandez; Deborah (Fred) Cordova; his son's Robert Hernandez; Ralph Hernandez; Ray (Michele) Hernandez; Ruben (Stella) Hernandez; Amy Ulibarri; Billy Young; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild; 4 sisters and 4 brothers.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Irene V. Hernandez; his parents and his sisters Angie Miller and Ruby Garcia.

Holy Rosary will be recited on 7:00 pm Monday, September 7th at San Francisco de Asis Church.

The funeral Mass will 10:00 am Tuesday at San Francisco de Asis Church with interment at Calvary Cemetery immediately following Mass.
