Nancy Sue (Jurgeson) Hawks of Pleasant Hill, Missouri passed away September 1, 2015 following complications following an open heart valve replacement surgery performed on March 6, 2015. She fought through one procedure after another in her courageous battle to regain her health, but each battle left her a little weaker. She accepted the fact that it was not meant to be and she passed peacefully, knowing she had the love of her family to keep her memory alive.
Nancy "Sue" was born December 23, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of Clifford C and Marguratta E (Pennington) Jurgeson.
Nancy married Melvin "Butch" Hawks on March 16th, 1962, and to this union three sons and a daughter were born.
Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and sister. Her life revolved around her family and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed researching and recording the family genealogy on both her husband and her family's side which she did for the last 20 years. She also loved to sew and crochet. Family camping trips with her grandchildren was always one of her favorite activities.
Nancy is survived by her husband Melvin of the home, son Melvin Craig and wife Phyllis, son Donald Hawks, daughter Traci Smith and husband Nelson "Lin" Smith, and son Edward Hawks, all of Pleasant Hill, Missouri. She also leaves behind four grandchildren Gabriel, Jacob, and Levi Smith of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Melissa Hawks of Springfield, Missouri. Nancy also leaves behind six brothers and sisters Dennis Jurgeson of Raytown, Missouri, Sharon Slater and husband Darell of Raytown, Missouri, Michael Jurgeson and wife Janet of Raytown, Missouri, Carol Ryle and husband Jack of Centerview, Missouri, Pamela Hedrick and husband Donald of Strasburg, Missouri, and Leslie Jurgeson of Blue Springs, Missouri. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Mount Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home at 10507 Holmes Road in Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will be Thursday September 3, 2015 from 6:00-8:00pm, with funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2015, followed by burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
