Jim was born on November 14, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois to Roy and Joan Crain. He graduated from Conant High School in 1973, and then served 4 years in the U.S. Navy. In 1976, he married Karen Schneider, his high school sweetheart. After a successful thirteen year career with Wang Computers, Jim worked for the transportation department of Grapevine Colleyville Independent School District until his retirement in 2015. Jim was an accomplished school bus driver, trainer, and accident investigator. He also coordinated the GCISD transportation operations for well over a decade.
He was a loyal and fair person who lived for traveling and enjoying new experiences with his wife and best friend Karen. Jim and Karen had two children. Their children remember him as a caring and generous father who supported them in all of their endeavors. He loved being a grandpa and had a special bond with his granddaughter.
Jim was an active and dedicated member of the Grapevine Police Department’s Volunteers in Police Service.
Jim is survived by his wife; son Michael and wife Ashley of Hays, KS and their daughter Adeline; daughter Heather and husband Justin of Euless, TX; brother Bryan of Fort Smith, AR, and a multitude of extended family.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary.
Funeral services will be on September 5th at 1:00 at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home, 400 Freeport Parkway, Coppell, TX. Private family burial will take place at their Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park Colleyville at a later date. Visitation from 5:30 until 7:30 pm on Friday and from 12:00 pm until 12:45 on Saturday, all at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home.
An additional memorial service will be held in Illinois at a later date.
