Robert Obed Sullivan, born August 9, 1929, died August 8, 2015, at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife, Betty Sullivan of Spring Valley, Ca; four children: Dennis Robert Sullivan, Portland, Or; James Glendon Sullivan, Hercules, Ca; Pamela Dorlene Biccum, Oceanside, Ca; Sheryl Lynn Nadeau, Eugene, Or; and 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
His family has given some of the following descriptive traits of Bob, or as he was called by some; "Chaplain Bob" or "Pastor Bob": sense of humor, organized, family man, humorous, caring, determined, go getter, knowledgeable, strong, integrity, generous, compassionate, disciplinarian, joyful, playful, warm, Godly, hero, witty.
After Bob graduated from Northwest Christian College in 1953, he was pastor at the Christian Church in Woodland, Wa. He served the Cayuga Christian Church in Indiana while attending the Christian Theological Seminary, where he got his Master of Divinity degree in 1960. He then went to minister in Washington at the Othello Christian Church, followed by the Auburn Christian Church. From Auburn he went into the Navy as a chaplain for 20 years.
During those 20 years in the Navy he served in California at Camp Pendleton, at Naval Training Center, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Naval Air Station Lemoore, and several deployments in the Pacific and Vietnam.
After his retirement from the Navy, Bob served in several capacities at the El Cajon Christian Church until he had his stroke in December, 1996. During his time at the El Cajon church, Bob finished his studies and received his Doctor of Theology degree at Fuller Theological Seminary.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that memorial gifts be made to Christian Missionary Fellowship in Indianapolis, In.
