Clyde Ray Dinkins - November 19, 1930 - Annapolis, Missouri. Employed at Jackson's Store in 1950, ($35 per week), until first child was 6 months old and we moved to Wyoming and he was employed at a saw mill in the mountains, 50 miles from any town. We lived in log cabins, ours being largest and the only one in the group with water in the house. (A small pitcher pump installed over a kitchen cabinet.) This was called the "Cook House Cabin" and Virginia cooked for the employees twice daily, using an oldtime wood cook stove. Also cooked the meals for any truck drivers coming in for lumber. On the site the employees had their own cabins or stayed in the bunk house. In return for her work, we received our groceries free. Clyde worked for $15.00 per day. This was an interesting lifestyle for us at ages 18 and 20 years old.
Due to daughter's illness [Virginia Rosanne], we had to return to Missouri and Clyde was employed at McDonnell Aircraft for 2 years. We then had our second daughter [Beverly Gail] and moved back to Annapolis where he was employed at Ironton, Missouri, as a journeyman lineman with REA for 9 years [$35 per week]. This job transferred to Fredericktown, MO. In 1954 the week our third daughter [Brenda Diann] was born. We were transferred to Ironton, MO and lived there until Brenda was 6 years old.
We then transferred back to Fredericktown, MO when our first son [Clyde Randall] (born 9 years & 9 days after our first daughter) was 7 months old. When Randy was 2 years old, we came back to Annapolis, MO and went into the grocery store business with Virginia's Father (Crayton Silas 'Cy' Jackson) and her brother, Bud.
1963 & 1965 brought our household the blessing of 2 more sons [David Lynn & Timothy Scott] (6 yrs between our 3 daughters & 3 sons). Clyde's parents & Virginia's Father had 3 sons and 3 daughters each but not in the order ours were, which we find unusual and are asked by some who have not known us if either of us were married before. Our reply, NO, God just blest our home in an unusual way. We are a close family and enjoy many activities together now with an addition of 8 Grandchildren, which also arrived by 3's. Two girls and a boy within 3 mos. time, 2 years later all three sisters were again expecting and again 3 mos. apart and in the same orders as the first time. God chose one of these for his "heavenly bouquet" shortly before birth and we added a boy and a girl.
In October 1980 we once again got 2 Granddaughters and 1 Grandson.....from a letter to Michael Stephen Jackson by Virginia Lee 'Pal' Dinkins.

On December 26, 1928, Mr. W.L. (William Lee) Jackson purchased the Signer and Signer General Store, located on Allen Street in Annapolis, Misosuri. Mr. Jackson operated the store from this date until July 5, 1937, when his son C.S. (Crayton Silas) 'Cy' Jackson bought half-interest in the store. At this time it was operated as W.L. Jackson and Son General Merchandise.
In 1939, C.S. Jackson obtained complete ownership, and the store was known as Jackson's IGA. During the following years, the store was operated by the C.S. Jackson family as a general store, including groceries, dry goods, clothing, shoes, hardware, and feed. During these years there were seven grocery stores in Annapolis.
On December 10, 1958, the store's location was moved from Allen Street to the corner at the intersection of Highway 49 and K. After this move, it was operated as a "self-service" store. In 1963 Western Auto was included as part of Jackson Enterprizes.
On April 1, 1966, C.S. Jackson sold the business to his son, Bud Jackson and his son-in-law Clyde Dinkins. Cy continued to work part-time. Bud managed the grocery store as Jackson's IGA, and later as Jackson's M & H, at the same location. Clyde moved the Western Auto store to the old building on Allen Street. On February 1, 1972, the Western Auto was moved to a new building on Highway K, where it is still in operation as Clyde's Western Auto. Family members continued to run both stores.
