He was born November 20, 1928 in Trenton, MO., the son of Charles and Dora (McCullough) Batson. He first married Shirley Kilpatrick in 1946 and they divorced. He married Sara Adams on February 10, 1974 in Abingdon, Illinois. She preceded him in death on July 3, 2007.
He was Plant Manager at Briggs Manufacturing in Abingdon retiring in 1994. He was President of International Association of Machinists Local Lodge 2079 at Briggs Manufacturing prior to becoming Plant Manager. He was a Volunteer Fireman and an Alderman in Abingdon. Bob loved working in his gardens, and being especially proud of his tomatoes, fishing, boating on the Mississippi and watching the Cardinals play baseball. Above all Bob loved his two cats, Flossie and Molly.
Bob is survived by his son, Mike (and Dale Lynn) Batson and his daughter, Susan (and JR) Wilson of Knoxville; his grandchildren, Travis Batson, Kasey (and Jim Osborne) Batson, Blake Batson, Chad (and Holly Maestas) Batson, Sara Batson and Robert (and Kelly) Purdy; his great-grandchildren, Charly Batson, Harly Osborne, Mika Osborne, Gavin Batson, Keegan (and Katie) Batson, Kiersten Davison, Kaley Purdy and Kinley Purdy; and a great-great-granddaughter due to be born in December; three brothers, Ronnie (and Joanne), Chuck (and Linda) all of Abingdon and Kenny (and Louise) of Little Swan Lake; four sisters, Betty Gordon, Shirley (and Harold) Blodgett, Mary Russo all of Abingdon and Patsy (and Glen) Lambert of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Harry Batson and Joseph (Art) Batson both of Abingdon; two brother in laws; George Gordon and Nick Russo all of Abingdon.
As per Bob's request cremation was accorded and there will be no visitation or funeral services. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society or St Jude Children's Hospital.
