MARK STEVEN GOFF, 52 years of age of Stuart's Draft, VA, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2005 at the Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA following an apparent heart attack Born on August 31, 1952 in Grundy, Virginia, he was the son of Birchie Shortridge Goff of Grundy, VA and the late Clarence Ellis Goff. He was a member of the Grundy Church of Christ where he served as a deacon for several years and was baptized by Raldo Cook. He attended the West Waynesboro Church of Christ in Waynesboro, VA. He was a graduate of Grundy Senior High School Class of 1970 and received his mining engineering degree from Virginia Tech in 1974. He presently was employed by the Virginia Department of Mine, Mineral and Energy in Charlottesville, VA. He was employed for many years in Grundy by United Coal Company, A. T. Massey Coal Corporation and Rapoca Energy Company. He was a former member of the Grundy Kiwanis Club, American Cancer Society, Willowbrook Country Club, and the Boy Scouts of America – Troop 40. He was a member of the Society of Mine Engineering, United States Golf Association, Professional Golf Association Tour Partners, Waynesboro County Club and the Hokie Club. His interests included Virginia Tech Sports, Golf and Cycling.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Brenda Sue Coleman Goff of Stuart's Draft, VA.

One Daughter Hannah Kaitlin Goff Stuart's Draft, VA

One Sister Leigh Ann and her husband Edward Foley Richmond, VA

One Brother John Michael and his wife Joyce Goff Richmond, VA

One niece Amanda F. and her husband Adrian Amos Richmond, VA

He is also survived by four Aunts – Edith G. Street, Colleen Oppenheimer, Ann G. Chaney and Myrtle S. Benton.

Funeral services for MARK STEVEN GOFF will be conducted Monday, August 15, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Church of Christ with Evg. Steve Hagy and Evg. Tom Cooper officiating with burial to follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Saturday evening at 6:00 P.M. and Sunday afternoon at 5:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Mr. Goff will be moved to the Grundy Church of Christ Monday at 11:00 A.M. to await the funeral hour of 1:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Mack Hagy, Roger Coleman, David Matney, Anthony Matney, James H. Street, Marty Street, Ed Foley, Adrian Amos, Jim Kelly, Randy Bostic, Herman Bostic, Pat Stiltner and Rick Rosti.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Employees of the Division of Mine, Minerals and Energy, David Wampler, Bill Fuller, Billy Campbell, Patrick Owens, Chris Perry, Don Layne, Dave Powers, Dave Fortner, and Dale Hess.

The family suggest that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of contributions to The American Heart Association for Buchanan County, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058.
