The family moved to Woodville (name later changed to Uniontown), Perry County, Alabama around
1836 and lived at "Oaklawn". David William Pitts was married three times, having one child by each
wife. He was elected 3rd Lieutenant of the Canebrake Rifle Guards, Fourth Infantry Regiment,
Alabama Volunteers which was organized in Uniontown on 25 April, 1861. He was 41 years old and
requested that if he was killed in the war, he be buried where he fell.
