Joel McCutcheon Anderson,aged 76, pioneer citizen of Erath County, died at the family home on West Frey Street Wednesday morning, February 26, at 7:20 o'clock and was laid to rest in West End Cemetery Thursday afternoon, following funeral service conducted by Rev. W. H. Andrew, pastor of the First Baptist Church.

Mr. Anderson was born Sept 28, 1855 in Tennessee and was reared to manhood there. He removed to Texas more than forty years ago settling in Erath County near Mt. Zion. The family home was kept up in that community until 1909 when they removed to Stephenville,

He was married in Tennessee more than fifty years ago to Miss Agnes Hill and to this union were born nine children, only four of whom survive the deceased.

"uncle Jokkie" as he was affectionatley called by almost every one who knew him had been a devout Christian for many years having united with the Methodist chuch when a youn man. HIs deat has cast a pall of gloom over his home and has saddened the hearst of all who knew him for he was dearly loved by his family and held in the highest esteem by a large circle of friends.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, W. P. and A. J. Anderson , two daughters, Mrs. D. H. Richardson, and Mrs. C. R. Roberts all of this city, also thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
