Services For L. B. Davis Will Be Tuesday

L. B. Davis, 63, died here Monday at 9:30 a.m. in a local hospital, following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning from the Seydler Funeral Home.
Mr.Davis, tax collector here for the past 13 years, was born Aug.26, 1883 in Gonzales county, the son of W.H. and Mollie Davis . He was a member of the Methodist church for many years and also held membership in the Lions , Mason, Odd Fellows and Hermann Lodges.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Willie Davis, one daughter, Mrs. William Beall, and one grandson William B. Beall. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. C. D. Cobb of San Antonio, one nephew, M. H. Davis of San Antonio; three nieces, Mrs. Russell Eldridge of San Antonio, Mrs. L. H. Are, Atlanta, Ga. and Mrs. Mary Virginia Echols of Albany, Ga. One brother, M. H. Davis, preceded him in death.

Rites Held For Berry Davis, Tax Collector

Tribute was paid the memory of L. B. (Berry) Davis, county tax collector r for 11 years, in rites held at the Seydler Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Davis died Monday in a local hospital following a brief illness.
Rev.nF. D. Carlton. Pastor of thebFirst Methodist church of which Davis was an active member, officiated at the services. A quartet consisting of Mrs. Charles Holmes, Mrs. Fred Boothe, W. F. Witt and Claude O'Neall sang "It Is Well With My Soul," and "I Need Thee Every Hour." Mrs. Holmes sang, " Jesus I Come," accompanied byMrs. Boothe at the violin and Mrs Kopecky at the piano.
Interment was at the Masonic cemetery with Masonic rites. Pallbearers were Bill Buchanan, Charles Holmes, Horace Wood, Fred Meisenhelder, S. H. Gillette, George DuBose, Warren Taylor, G. E. Bradley, Dr. L. J. Lauraine and honorary pallbearers were his friends.
Born in Wrightsboro on Aug. 6, 1882, Davis was the son of the late W. H. and Mollie Davis. He had lived in Gonzales county most of his life and had been connected with public affairs since young manhood. He served as County tax collector for 13 years and was known throughout the county for his amiable personality.
Davis enjoyed the respect and esteem of all who knew him as an honorable upright citizen, a good neighbor and a champion of the right. He was a lover of music and played the banjo in string bands over the county for many years.
An active member of the First Methodist church he sang in the choir. He also held membership in the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, Odd Fellows and Hermann Sons.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Willie Ida Davis; one daughter, Mrs. William Beall; one grandson William B. Beall.
