Navy Aviation Ordnanceman 2nd Class (Petty Officer 2nd Class) Lee was a member of a West Coast-based SEAL Team. He was killed while saving his team members from a fierce attack by insurgents during combat operations while on patrol in Ramadi. Lee staged an offensive diversion in a moment of crisis. He made the decision to sacrifice his life after another SEAL was hit by sniper fire and several men were trapped inside a building. He was the third man in and literally stood out in the hallway to block the heavy fire they were taking so the guys behind him could get out. Marc was home schooled for most of his education, but did attend Horizon Christian School and played soccer with the Hood River Valley High School team. It was his strong Christian belief that he was here to make a difference for good that led him to join the military. He joined the Navy in 2001 and graduated from boot camp. He then underwent training in Pensacola, Florida, to become an aviation ordnanceman. He began SEAL and basic underwater demolition training in Coronado in 2001 but had to interrupt the program because of pneumonia. He returned to Coronado for SEAL training in March 2004 and graduated that November. Four years ago he married the love of his life, Maya. In letters home, Marc never expressed any regret or doubt about U.S. operations in Iraq. He told his family that the Iraqi people wanted them there and how the people would cry for our military to save them from horrific things.
