Robert L. Gray, 88 died peacefully, Saturday morning, August 29, 2015, at his home in Gray, Tn. Born February 6, 1927, in Gray, TN. He was a lifelong resident of the Gray Community graduating from Sulphur Springs High School. Mr. Gray retired in 1989 from Holston Defense Corporation in Kingsport where he was employed for 38 years. He was a director of the Appalachian Fair 60+ years, where he performed Electrical Wiring and Lighting, and served on the entertainment committee. He was a dedicated member of the Gray United Methodist Church. He loved his church, making apple butter with his fellow church members, considered it a privilege to work at the church and to help families in need. He loved wood working, camping, fishing, traveling, and talking with friends. He was endeared for his skills in toy making and loved sharing the results of his craft. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Gray is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Barnes Gray of 65 years. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his Father: James P. Gray and Mother Leona Hall Gray, Sister Elizabeth Mays, Brothers, Ralph, Niles, and Howard Gray. He is survived by two Sons, James (Pat) Gray, Gray, TN, Eddie L. Gray Spouse, Mickie Gray, Alpharetta, GA, and Daughter Susan Arney, Spouse John Arney, Johnson City, TN. Grandchildren: Eric Gray and Spouse Brittney Gray, Smyrna, GA. Robert W. Gray, Emily Pettit and Spouse Kent Pettit, St. Louis, MO Great-Granddaughter: Sadie Annabelle Gray Smyrna, GA. Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gray United Methodist Church. Reverend Lloyd Jones officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2015, in Washington County Memorial Gardens, Johnson City. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gray United Methodist Church. The family respectfully request donations to the Gray United Methodist Church Apple Butter Fund in lieu of flowers, P.O. Box 8068, Gray, TN 37615.
