Harold E. Holmes, 79, of Galesburg, died at 9:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28,2015, at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.

He was born Oct. 6,1935, in Cairo, Illinois, the son of Hallie and Juanita Pearman Holmes.

He was raised in Galesburg and graduated from Galesburg High School. He served in the United States Air Force. Harold married Paula Louise Meridith on March 11,1999, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Harold is survived by his wife, Paula; a stepdaughter, Robin (Gary) Iishman of Galesburg; a stepson, Bob Bower of California; three stepgrandchildren, Mason, Danielle, and Dylan; and good friends, Janet Hunter and Bev Hunter, both of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He worked for Illinois Power as a draftsman for 38 years.

Harold was a lifetime St. Louis Cardinal fan. He enjoyed baseball, he played for the American Legion and the U.S. Air Force when we was enlisted. He also played basketball for the Silver Streaks.

Harold will be remembered for having a voice soft as his heart.

Per Harold's wishes cremation rites will be accorded and no services are planned. Memorials maybe made to the Knox County Humane Society. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory, Knoxville, is in charge of arrangements.
