Roy L. Humphreys, Jr., 63, St. Joseph, died of an apparent heart attack while hunting Sunday afternoon, Dec. 2, in the Big lake area. Mr. Humprheys had just been re-elected as state representative of the 7th District.

According to information from the Holt County Sheriff's Department, Humphreys was hunting with his son, Daniel, 26, in separate duck blinds approximately 100 yards from each other in the northwest corner of Big Lake. When the son returned to his father's blind, he found Humphreys slumped over. After trying unsuccessfully to revive him the younger Humphreys went for help.

Sheriff Melvin Hayzlett said it took nearly two hours for rescuers to reach Humphreys because of the water surrounding the area of the blind. It was almost impossible to get an ambulance close.

Humphreys had been a resident of St. Joseph for 30 years. He was a retired agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, having served the agency for 25 years. In 1978, he was elected as state representative of the 7th District. He held this position until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred, a daughter and four sons. Services were conducted Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 1:30 p.m. at the Ashland United Methodist Church. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph.
