Georgia was born July 20, 1918, near Manson, Iowa, daughter of William T. and Olive Haney McLaughlin. She graduated from Manson High School. She married Walter Pierce of Lake City, Iowa, on December 4, 1937, in Elk Point, South Dakota, and they were happily married for 74 ½ years, until Walter passed away in 2012.

Georgia’s passions besides her home and family, were her church, garden, china painting, cooking, sewing, and oil painting.

Georgia taught in a rural school for one year before she married Walter, and they moved to the Lake City area to farm. In 1949, they were able to purchase the farm south of Lake City where they worked and lived for nearly 60 years. In 2007, they moved to the Brandon, Iowa area to retire. Georgia later moved to the Western Home Retirement Communities in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Georgia is survived by her two sons, Robert (Amy) Pierce, of Rockville, Maryland, James (Peggy) Pierce, of West Des Moines, Iowa, one daughter, Myrna (Leonard) Sandvik, of Brandon, and one daughter-in-law, Barbara (Steve) Pierce. She is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Huston, and one brother, Bill McLaughlin, as well as seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, one son, Steven Jon Pierce, one grandson, Michael Jon Pierce, her parents, and eight sisters, Mary Cooper Behrends, Melvina Peterson, Margaret Kleen, Olive Webb, Lillie McLaughlin, Judy Webb, Helen Lange, and Nellie Bergerson.
