April 19, 1922 - February 3, 2005



Mrs. Effie Mae Duncan Ward, age 82, of Marion, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2005 at Memorial Mission Hospital.

Mrs. Ward was born in Mitchell County on April 19, 1922 and was a daughter of the late Charlie Duncan and Beatrice Buchanan Duncan.

She was a charter member of New Horizon Baptist Church.

Her husband, Hillard J. "Teague" Ward, preceded her in death.

She is survived by four daughters, Wanda Moore and Jane Lawing of Marion, Joyce Harrell of Knoxville, TN and Jean Hill Ashley of Lexington, NC; three sons-in-law, Roy Moore, Charles Harrell and Dr. Ralph Ashley; one sister, Marcelle Saulmon of Bostic, NC; two brothers, Clarence "Sonny" Duncan and Ray Duncan, both of Union Mills, NC; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 6, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Phil Murdock officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 5, 2005 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in McDowell Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to New Horizon Baptist Church, P.O. Box 99, Marion, N. C. 28752.
